Underwater ecological surveys and restoration plans in northern Mozambique

Likhulu has partnered with Rare Mozambique, to conduct underwater ecological baseline assessments and design restoration plans for coastal and marine habitats in northern Mozambique. This is part of Rare’s Fish Forever Mozambique program which (https://rare.org/program/fish-forever-in-mozambique/) aims at establishing, improving and/or consolidating community-led marine resource management and behavioral changes. Field work is being carried out in January 2023 in the Nacala and Mogincual districts, and will include surveys of coral reef, mangrove, seagrass and sandy/rocky bottom habitats. The results will inform the establishment of managed access areas that provide fishing communities clear rights to fish and create networks of fully-protected and community-led no-take marine reserves to replenish and sustain fish populations and protect critical habitats.
